- RAGMAKAMTAR (all versions)-

RAGMAKAMTAR (version #1)

2006

Ragmakamtar verions #1 is a
combination of an oud and a
sarod contained in the body
of an acoustic fretless guitar.

RAGMAKAMTAR (version #3)

2007

Ragmakamtar version #3 is a refinement
on the basic concept of version #1. This instrument
was built in 2006/7 entirely in the workshop of
Faruk Turunz. After seeing Ragmakamtar #1 Faruk
invited me to build the next version there in
his Istanbul workshop.

RAGMAKAMTAR (version #6)

2009

Ragmakamtar version #6 is a
major departure in design from previous
versions. This concept uses a large ergonomic
back made from papier mache.

RAGMAKAMTAR (version #7)

2011

Ragmakamtar #7 is another major departure
in design. I wanted a more resonant body
and a more stream-line neck (actually a
single neck containing both oud and sarod).
The body is extremely resonante - in fact
the back itself is made as a second soundboard.

RAGMAKAMTAR (version #9d)

2013

Ragmakamtar #9 is the design that
achieved the greatest resonance
and playability. This was
accomplished, ironically, by
simply "going back to basics"
and proven traditional designs.
In fact, this version is not much
more than simply an "oud with two
necks" - the second neck is a sarod.

RAGMAKAMTAR (version #12)

2012

This Ragmakamtar is very
similar to Version #9
except that the necks
are slightly longer
giving a 65cm string scale
length which allows for
an excellent tone in "A"
tuning.

RAGMAKAMTAR (version #14a)

2013

This Ragmakamtar is very
similar to Version #9
except that the necks
are slightly shorter
giving a 58.5cm string scale
length which allows for
an excellent tone in "B/E"
tuning.
